Maria Huata
Maria Huata is happily married, a proud mother of eight and a devoted grandmother to her grandson. She brings a deep and unwavering passion for whānau, culture, education, and the environment to her leadership journey.
Now standing for Mayor of Hamilton and seeking re-election to the Māori Ward, Maria is driven by a vision of a city that works for everyone, a city that is vibrant, inclusive, affordable, and thriving.
Maria believes in building a future where all Hamiltonians, regardless of background or circumstance, feel a sense of belonging and have access to opportunity, wellbeing, and strong community connection.
“A critical factor to our success was that I know my community, and my community knows me. And that 47 years of being a kanohi kitea, a familiar face, kaupapa-driven and active in the community, is immeasurable, priceless and significantly important.”
